Cumberland Presbyterian Church

Cumberland Presbyterian Church is a Christian denomination in the United States . The church belongs to the reformed churches of Protestantism , whose origins lie with the reformer John Calvin . According to its own information, it has 70,810 members in 709 parishes, 51 of which are outside the United States (as of 2015). Its headquarters are in Cordova (Tennessee) .

Church history

In 1810, the Cumberland Presbyterian Church had broken away from the Presbyterian Church (USA) due to disputes over pastor formation and shortage and the evaluation of the Second Great Awakening . Pastors Samuel McAdow, Finis Ewing, and Samuel King reorganized the Cumberland Presbyterians. The first Cumberland Synod was held in 1813 and the General Assembly of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church was established in 1829 . The first ordination of women took place in 1899 : Louisa Mariah Layman Woosley . In 1906, larger parts of the church reunited with the Presbyterian Church.
