Sundowner in the Kalahari

In a Sundowner (English for about sun lowering agents ) or Dämmerschoppen is an alcoholic beverage , which for sunset is drunk. You usually get together for about half an hour and usually only have one, at most two alcoholic drinks.

In English-influenced African countries, the sundowner is still popular with travel companies. For this purpose, you meet within the travel group to watch the sunset together with a drink. Also among private individuals in southern and tropical countries, the invitation to "sundowners" is a common practice.

One thesis is that the sundowner was introduced in the British Navy : Since the officers of a ship rarely met in full due to the staggered watch duty, captains have introduced the sundowner ritual so that everyone gets together at least once a day.
