Attenuation cancellation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The right pedal on upright and grand piano is called damping cancellation , its function is to lift all dampers from the strings so that they continue to sound after the key is released . The acoustic effect consists on the one hand in a kind of reverberation, on the other hand in a sound amplification, since stronger resonances act when the dampers are removed . Other names for the right pedal are therefore also Sustain or Forte .
