Thin film evaporator

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The thin film evaporator is an evaporator that evaporates solutions in a thin film. It is mostly operated in a vacuum and is therefore suitable for the gentle separation of mixtures of substances.

principle

The liquid is directed from above onto the vertical evaporator surface. The evaporator surface is a tube with a mechanical stirring system in the middle. The thin film of solution is formed by the stirring system with fixed or movable stirring blades that brush along the heating surface. The evaporation energy required is introduced into the solution film via an external double jacket.

scope of application

Since the apparatus can be operated very well in a vacuum, it is suitable for gentle distillation at low temperatures. Thin-film evaporators with moveable stirring blades are suitable for crystallization processes.
