DOS Protected Mode Services

DOS Protected Mode Services (abbreviated DPMS ) is a set of services of DOS - Memory Manager , on the slightly modified DOS device drivers , - TSR programs and applications, either as had conventional memory can be executed or in the extended memory postponed and there in 16-bit - or 32-bit - protected mode can be performed. For communication with the conventional DOS environment, a small part of the program code remains in the real mode address space.

History and use

Originally developed by Novell for Novell DOS 7 , DPMS is also supported in later systems such as Caldera DR-DOS 7.0x and by drivers and services such as DELWATCH, NWCACHE, NWCDEX, the PNW SERVER and some editions of DRFAT32, LONGNAME and DEBUG.

DPMS is also found in IBM PC DOS 7.0 and higher, as well as in various third-party programs such as Stacs Stacker, some PCMCIA driver stacks and DIVA CAPI drivers. Compatible with other DOSES and Windows 3.x / Windows 9x, it is also supported by Helix CLOAKING and Logitech mouse drivers.
