Daniel W. Mills

Daniel Webster Mills (born February 25, 1838 in Waynesville , Warren County , Ohio , †  December 16, 1904 in Chicago , Illinois ) was an American politician . Between 1897 and 1899 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Daniel Mills attended public schools in his home country. In 1859 he moved to Corwin and worked there, among other things, in the grain trade and in meat dispatch. During the civil war he served as a captain in the Union army . After the war he moved to Chicago, where he worked in commerce between 1866 and 1869. Later he also got into the real estate business. Between 1877 and 1881 he served in the administration of the County Hospital in Cook County . Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . Between 1889 and 1893 he was a city councilor in Chicago.

In the congressional election of 1896 Mills was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fourth constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded Charles W. Woodman on March 4, 1897 . Since he was not confirmed in 1898, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1899 . During this time the Spanish-American War of 1898 fell .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Daniel Mills returned to real estate trading. He died in Chicago on December 16, 1904.
