David K. Wyatt
David K. Wyatt (born September 21, 1937 in Fitchburg (Massachusetts) , † November 15, 2006 in Ithaca (New York) ) was an American historian who dealt with Southeast Asia and especially Thailand . He is considered one of the most important representatives of Thai studies .
Life
Wyatt grew up in Iowa and graduated from the Harvard University philosophy until the 1959 Bachelor Accounts received. He then studied at Boston University until his master's degree in 1960. Finally , he received his doctorate in 1966 from Cornell University in history with a dissertation on the beginning of modern education in Thailand during the reign of King Chulalongkorn (1968-1910).
Even before his graduation, Wyatt was given a teaching position at the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London , where he taught until 1968. After a year at the University of Michigan , he returned to Cornell University, where he served for a period as chairman of the history department. He stayed at Cornell University until his retirement in 2002.
In 2005 Wyatt sold his approximately 15,000 volume research library to the Southeast Asia Collection at the University of Ohio .
David K. Wyatt died on November 15, 2006 at the Hospicare Residence in Ithaca, New York.
