David Mach (sculptor)

David Mach (born March 18, 1956 ) is a Scottish sculptor . The basis of his style are flowing assemblages of objects such as magazines, teddy bears, newspapers, car tires, matches or clothes hangers. Many of his exhibitions are only temporary and built in public spaces.

Life

Mach was born in the small town of Methil, Scotland. He studied at the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design from 1974 and graduated in 1979. In the same year he began a three-year course at the Royal College of Art in London . After several public exhibitions, Mach was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1988 . In 2000 he joined the Royal Academy of Arts as a professor of sculpture.
