David X. Cohen (actually David Samuel Cohen ; born July 13, 1966 in Long Island , New York ) is an American screenwriter and film producer .

Life

With the beginning of the series Futurama , which he developed together with Matt Groening , he joined the writers' union Writers Guild of America . Since a David S. Cohen was already registered there and each name was only allowed once, he had to change his name. He chose the "X" because, in his opinion, it sounded more like science fiction and the "X" would attract more attention.

Before he started writing professionally, he earned a degree in computer science and physics from the University of California at Berkeley , where he made a name for himself looking at the burnt pancake sorting problem . However, since he didn't like it and had enjoyed writing and drawing little comics in the past , he decided to write. After a year of unemployment, he got a job and wrote some of the first episodes of Beavis and Butt-Head . He later started writing for The Simpsons .

After five years of authorship for The Simpsons , Matt Groening offered him a job on Futurama . There he worked as executive producer and lead writer . He has also been involved in the Disenchantment series since 2018 .
