Coverage protractor
Measurements in the terrain are carried out with the coverage angle meter .
The angle of coverage is used to measure the angle of clearance. The coverage angle describes the angle between the horizontal target line and superelevation.
Application area
The coverage protractor was mainly used by the military.
Due to the main military area of use, the usual 360 degree division was not used, but the artillery line . Here the full circle is divided into 6400 mil.
If the distance to the measurement object is known, the height can also be determined using the angle using the tangent. Conversely, if the altitude is known, the distance can roughly be determined.
Height measurement
The cover angle is a very cheap and accurate instrument for determining heights. With a division of lines in the vial of the angle of coverage you can achieve an angular resolution of approx. 0.6 degrees (with practice also 0.3 degrees), which corresponds to 10 or 5 lines. The maximum positive and negative measuring angle is 500 mil, which corresponds to a circular angle of 28.125 degrees each. This means that the measurement object has to be twice as far away as it is high.
