Deffnerstrasse 6/1

The house Deffnerstraße 6/1 in Esslingen am Neckar is a residential building from the early 20th century that can only be reached via a bridge.

history

Deffnerstraße runs parallel to Hammerkanal and is actually only built on one side. The house at Deffnerstraße 6/1, however, stands across this canal and can only be reached via its own reinforced concrete bridge . The two-storey house with a mansard roof was built in 1904 by Emil Zillinger for the privateer Adolf Ulmer. It has mixed architectural forms. The bay window, the stair tower with onion dome and the partially used exposed framework still go back to the influences of historicism , but on the other hand, Art Nouveau elements and elements of reform architecture can also be recognized. In addition to the timber framing, there are also facade surfaces that are simply plastered, and above the last window under the gable is a sunflower relief. The colored windows on the first floor, which show water lily motifs, are also due to the Art Nouveau style, as is the design of the bridge railing by Wayss & Freytag .
