Dekere

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Dekere ( Decere ) was an antique rowing warship .

It originated in the Hellenistic period as a further development of older multi-row ship types such as the Bireme , Triere or Quinquereme , but had ten rowers in one unit. The exact arrangement is unclear. What is certain, however, is that there were several rowers on each oar, distributed over a maximum of three or four rows of oars.

Dekeren turned out to be unsuitable in practice and quickly fell out of use.
