Decurio

Decurio ("Zehnschaftsführer", from Latin decem = ten), sometimes also called Dekarch in ancient Greek sources , referred to in the Roman Empire :

  • the leader of a group of legionaries or a division of a cavalry unit in the Roman army, see Decurio (military)
  • a councilor of Roman parishes who was elected for life, see Decurio (local government)
  • the three chiefs of the Silentiarii at the late Roman and Byzantine imperial courts
  • the head of a sub-unit ( decuria ) of the Roman collegiae
