Dendrite (religion)
A dendrite is a monk who has retired to a tree (Greek δένδρον, dendron ) in asceticism . Similar to the pillar saints (stylites), this is a rare and extremely ascetic form of life in early Christianity in the eastern part of the Mediterranean. This practice is considered a special form of anachoresis , which was mainly used in Syria and which could not gain a foothold in the "West".
