Denkreuth village chapel

The Denkreuther Dorfkapelle is a chapel in the parish of Altenstadt an der Waldnaab .

Where the village chapel stands today in Denkreuth, the fire station, the Waaghäusl and a village cross were located until after the Second World War . The fire station and Waaghäusl were rebuilt elsewhere. The village cross found its place on the former Kirchsteig a little away from the connection path to Mühlberg "An der Fichte".

The farmer Karl Beer from Denkreuth No. 1 (house name Winterpeter) built the chapel in the village in 1947/48. The reason for this was a vow he had made during the war because of a serious illness. Originally it was supposed to be just a small chapel in your own garden on the roadside. But when the villagers found out about it, they asked the builder to put it in the center of the village and build something bigger. In this way it was then 10 m long and can seat around 40 people.

The villagers also offered to pay, but Karl Beer refused. But the reason was made available and manual and clamping services were performed. Some objects were also donated by others, two saints from the Fenzl family from Denkreuth No. 5 and the Beer family from Denkreuth No. 11 (house name Hausner), as well as the carved warrior plaque from the Mois family from Denkreuth No. 6.

The plan for the village chapel was drawn up by the district master builder Emmeram Mark from Neustadt, the executing company was the Feldmann construction business, also from Neustadt. The altarpiece of the Immaculate Conception, a copy of Murillo's picture, was painted by the church painter Salzbauer from Wurz, as was the ceiling painting, which represented the English greeting, but has since disappeared under a wooden ceiling because it had been damaged by penetrating moisture. The chapel also received a small bell tower as a roof turret with a bell.

In the post-war period when the church was built, it was very difficult to get building materials. Before the currency reform on July 20, 1948, you got almost nothing for money alone, as it was not worth much. Something could only be achieved in a roundabout way through relationships and in exchange. So Karl Beer had to z. B. sacrifice two oxen to even get to the roof tiles.

Finally the chapel was finished and on December 8th, 1949, the feast of the “Immaculate Conception” was consecrated.

Every year masses are read and May devotions are held there twice.

The bell service was carried out from the start by the Beer family (house name Hausner), who rang the bell in the morning, at noon and in the evening. Before the village chapel stood, the Hausner property had its own bell for a long time, but it had to be delivered during the Second World War. The bell service of the Beer family ended in 1983; because at that time the chapel received an electric bell, which was paid for by the hunting lease.

The Karl Beer family (Winterpeter) continues to maintain the village chapel. So it was completely renovated inside and out in the last few years until 1991.
