The film is set in 1935 in Texas during the Gusher Age . While adventurers make quick money with oil discoveries , the strange Mr. Cox roams the country unsuccessfully. Although he suspects unused oil wells on Farmer Don Day's property , he does not have enough money to finance the expensive test well.
