Det Norske Studentersamfund (DNS, German: The Norwegian Student Association) is a Norwegian student organization based in Oslo . It was founded in Christiania on October 2, 1813 , making it the oldest student organization in Norway. It is based in the so-called “Chateau Neuf”, a building in the Majorstuen district.

history

Det Norske Studentersamfund was founded by 17 students at the University of Oslo on October 2nd, 1813. In the early days, due to the small size, the students met with members of the student organization. As the student organization grew, separate rooms were rented.

The student organization worked for some years as a closed literary association, in 1820 it was opened to all graduates who wanted to join and was thus also an organization that could represent all students.

In 1861 the student organization opened its own building at Universitetsgaten 26. This was financed solely through donations and voluntary contributions. The building was sold in 1918. After many years of campaigning to build a new building, Chateau Neuf opened in 1971 and is now the headquarters of Det Norske Studentersamfund, which also hosts cultural events.
