German Medicines Codex

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Medicines Codex ( DAC ) is a supplement to the pharmacopoeia in Germany published by the Federal Association of German Pharmacists' Associations ( ABDA ) . The DAC has been published since 1984 (updated every six months since 2012) together with the New Formulation Form ( NRF ). It is a practical volume in which the medicinal substances or starting materials for the production of pharmaceuticals are monographed that are not mentioned in the European Pharmacopoeia (Ph.Eur.), German Pharmacopoeia (DAB) and Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia (HAB). In order to close the existing gap, the ABDA decided in 1967 to publish a supplement to the pharmacopoeia. The first edition appeared in 1972. In terms of content, the DAC is developed and maintained by an eighteen-member scientific commission from the field of pharmacy together with its own testing laboratory in Eschborn. The DAC is stipulated as mandatory literature for every pharmacy in Section 5 of the Pharmacy Operating Regulations ( ApBetrO ). The BfArM uses the DAC monographs as a standard work for drug approval.
