The Dia da Implantação da República is a Portuguese holiday . It is celebrated on October 5th every year .
It commemorates the fall of the monarchy and the proclamation of the First Portuguese Republic on October 5, 1910.
In 2012, the government of Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho decided to suspend the holiday from 2013. At the beginning of 2016, this decision was revised by the successor government, so October 5th is already a public holiday again in 2016.
