The Debate was a daily newspaper published from November 13, 1864 to February 28, 1865, and from September 15, 1868 to September 30, 1869. Between 1865 and 1869 the title of the paper was "The Debate and Wiener Lloyd".

Initially, "The Debate" appeared daily, from September 15, 1868 twice a day. It was also published as a morning and evening edition from number 253 of the fifth year (1868). From the fifth year (1868) onwards, “The Debate” contained another section entitled Wiener Lloyd: Organ for Economics, Commerce and Industry, and a supplement to a novel.

As a follow-up to the debate, “Die Tages-Presse” appeared in Vienna from 1869 to 1878.

In the first edition of the conservatively oriented daily newspaper of November 13, 1864, the task named was “the discussion of the Austrian constitutional question”, because this was not a question of many, “but the main and vital question of the empire” and contained “Austria Future". (P. 1)
