The Digital Theft Deterrence and Copyright Damages Improvement Act of 1999 is a US law that was passed by the United States House of Representatives on January 6, 1999. It increases the penalty for copyright violations , especially when sharing files . It currently allows a fine of up to $ 750 per piece of music, among other things .
