Diodorus of Tarsus
Diodorus of Tarsus (* in Antioch ; † before 394) was a presbyter and bishop of the 4th century.
Life
He studied philosophy in Athens with his friend Basil of Caesarea . In Antioch he became known for his adherence to Orthodoxy, while Arian bishops ruled his city . After the decline of the School of Antioch, he founded a community similar to a monastery in the middle of the 4th century. In 378 Diodorus left Antioch to become bishop in Tarsus .
His pupil Theodoros of Mopsuestia became rector of the School of Antioch. Theodoros and Diodoros were opponents of the heresy of Apollinaris . As the founder of the cosmological proof of God, Diodorus is important for the history of dogma.
449 his writings were condemned at the Synod of Constantinople, because he was regarded as the forerunner of the heretic Nestorios .
