The Direct Action ( DA ) is a newspaper of the anarcho-syndicalist trade union federation Free Workers' Union (FAU) which has been published since 1977 . Until 2016 it was published every two months with 16 pages in Berlin format . The print edition was discontinued due to financial problems. Since December 2016 it has appeared as an irregular online medium in the format of a blog .

The “direct action” is divided into the categories “company and society”, “background”, “global”, “slow motion” and “culture”. They analyze current economic developments from the employee's point of view, but also publish reports of labor disputes. There was a "social revolutionary crossword puzzle" on the last page of the print edition.

The editors of the direct action are elected at the annual FAU congress, usually for a period of two years. Since they are given an imperative mandate , as is usual at FAU , they are not only accountable to the organization, but can also be voted out of office at any time. Since there are no released or paid officials at FAU, the editorial team works free of charge.

The predecessor newspapers were Die Einigkeit der Free Association of German Trade Unions (until 1914), The Syndicalist of the Free Workers' Union of Germany (until 1932) and The Free Society of the Federation of Liberal Socialists (until 1953).

The newspaper cooperated with Linksnet . In September 2011 a first article of the direct action appeared there .
