Lack of distance

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The lack of distance or distance describes a characteristic of a specific social contact behavior , it can be a symptom of a manic disorder , an attachment or personality disorder , among other things . In detail, it is characterized by the following features:

  • Forcing social interactions without sufficient rapport , ie without emotional coordination with the partner, possibly even through explicit rejection
  • Searching for contacts without critical assessment of social desirability, social closeness and social structures
  • Use of forms of communication that are not appropriate to one's own social position towards the partner
  • Invading or engaging in other people's affairs or violating the other's privacy .

A lack of distance can be part of a pathology , but it can also be a character problem , a sign of immaturity or even a misjudgment due to an intercultural misunderstanding. In everyday human interaction, the behavior of someone who does not observe the rules of social distance or who persistently tries to establish contact without sufficient rapport is perceived as tactless .
