Doga Derneği

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Doğa Derneği (DD) is a bird and nature conservation association in Turkey. The organization, founded in 2002, is a partner of BirdLife International .

DD carries out monitoring and protection programs for individual species and is not limited to birds, but is also committed to the habitats of the Anatolian leopard and tortoises, for example. In 30 Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) of the 305 Turkish KBAs, cross-border protection projects are carried out in cooperation with other organizations. In "Nature Schools" Doğa Derneği tries to win people over to nature conservation.

The organization is committed to protecting the KBA in the Tigris Valley , which is threatened by the construction of the highly controversial Ilısu Dam . In 2009, DD welcomed Germany's decision to withdraw from the dam project. The aim of the association was that the dam would not be built.
