Dolichocolon is an abnormal length of the colon with a normal diameter (synonym: Dolichocolon , also Sigma elongatum ). Dolichocoly was often diagnosed as the cause of chronic constipation in the past, and the advice was then to surgically shorten the colon. Today this is generally seen as a fallacy.
