Cathedral building hut of St. Peter
The cathedral building works of St. Peter ( Italian Fabbrica di San Pietro , Latin Reverendae Fabrica Sancti Petri ) is the building works of St. Peter's Basilica and is responsible for all measures and the maintenance of the building. It was founded in 1908 and is organizationally affiliated with the Roman Curia . Cardinal Angelo Comastri has been President since 2005 .
history
The first establishment of a building commission goes back to Pope Julius II (1503–1513). Pope Sixtus V (1585–1590) ordered the subordination of the Cathedral Building Commission to the direction of the Archpriest of St. Peter's Basilica . With Pope Clement VIII (1592–1605) the responsibility changed to a specially founded Congregazione della Reveranda Fabbrica of Saint Peter . The Archpriest of St. Peter's Basilica was appointed President, and cardinals and prelates were appointed as additional members . In 1863 Pope Pius IX decreed . (1846–1878) changed responsibilities again.
With the reform carried out by Pope Pius X (1903–1914), the responsibility of the Congregation was limited in 1908 to building work on St. Peter's Basilica. After the Second Vatican Council , the Congregation of Pope Paul VI. (1963–1978) dissolved and placed under the papal administration of the Curia.
The last reform took place in 1988 with the Apostolic Constitution Pastor Bonus by Pope John Paul II (1978-2005), with which it was determined:
"In accordance with the special laws, the cathedral building hut of St. Peter will continue to take care of everything that concerns the Basilica of the Prince of the Apostles, be it with regard to the preservation and decoration of the building, be it with regard to the internal order of the overseers and the pilgrims, who come to the church for sightseeing. In all cases in which it is necessary, the superiors of the Dombauhütte work together with the chapter of this basilica "

Management and archive
The Dombauhütte employs around 120 skilled workers and specialists. These include physicists , architects , chemists , restorers , carpenters , cleaners and pavers, the Sampietrini . The praesidium is headed by the archpriest of St. Peter's Basilica, and the extended praesidium also includes bishops and scientists .
The Dombauhütte has an extensive archive in which letters from Michelangelo , sketches, drawings and correspondence with suppliers are kept. The documents were summarized in approximately 10,000 volumes.
