The Dominion Building (sometimes referred to as the Dominion Bank Building ) is a high-rise in the Canadian city of Vancouver . It is located in the Gastown neighborhood at 207 West Hastings Street.
The 53 m (14 storeys) high, Second Empire style Dominion Building is the oldest skyscraper in the city, in which the steel frame construction was used.
The construction was financed by Gustav Konstantin von Alvensleben , who came from Germany . The Dominion Building opened in 1908 and was the tallest building in the entire British Empire until 1910 . Today it is a listed building.
At the back of the building, on Cambie Street, scenes from the film The Neverending Story were filmed.
