Phillip "Phil" Calvin McGraw (born September 1, 1950 in Vinita , Oklahoma ) is an American psychologist and television presenter . McGraw was nominated for Greatest American in 2005.

Life

McGraw attended Shawnee Mission North High School in Overland Park , studied psychology at Midwestern State University , graduating with a BA in 1975 . He then moved to the University of North Texas for further studies , where he first earned a master's degree in experimental psychology and then a doctorate in clinical psychology .

After McGraw helped the American television presenter Oprah Winfrey since 1996 in a "meat scandal lawsuit" and she won it two years later, she hired him from 1998 for weekly appearances as a psychology expert on her Oprah Winfrey show .

Due to his success, he started his own television program “Dr. Phil “- a psychology show that is as successful in the US as the Oprah Winfrey show . Since the show is more entertainment than psychology, he doesn't need a license as a psychologist. In 2006 he returned his license. In addition to his show, he now and then also plays in supporting roles in movies like Scary Movie 4 or TV series like Frasier (episode 10x21). The television series Bull, starring Michael Weatherly, is based on Phil McGraw's career at a trial consulting firm.

He is married to Robin Jameson for the second time since 1976 and has two sons with her.
