Thirtieth

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In inheritance law of the Federal Republic of Germany, the thirtieth is the obligation of the heir to provide maintenance to certain family members of the deceased for the first 30 days after the occurrence of the inheritance .

This maintenance obligation follows from § 1969 BGB . According to this regulation, the aforementioned family members of the testator must be people who belonged to his household at the time of his death and who received maintenance from him. In this case, the heir is obliged to provide maintenance to the same extent as the testator did for 30 days after the death of the testator, although the testator can make a different arrangement by means of a will.

The regulation of the thirtieth can already be found in the Sachsenspiegel by Eike von Repgow and is therefore at least 700 years old.

"After that, the wife and the heir have to divide in half all the food supplies in the yard that are left over after the thirtieth, in every yard of her husband or wherever he had it in his possession."
