Triplet (potato)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As triplets , even small order or Commodity field called, refers to potatoes a special sizing, regardless of the type of potato .

According to the regulation on legal trade classes for table potatoes (SpKartHKV) of 1985, table potatoes must be sorted according to size when they are placed on the market . A minimum size of 30 mm is prescribed for tubers of long oval to long varieties, and 35 mm for tubers of round to oval varieties. If smaller potatoes are placed on the market, they must be given the additional designation triplets . The size grading is set at 25 to 35 mm for long oval to long varieties and 25 to 40 mm for round to oval varieties.

With the regulation on EC standards for fruit and vegetables and the repeal of regulations in the field of fruit and vegetables of June 10, 2009 it was determined that the regulation on legal trade classes for table potatoes is no longer in force. The labeling of table potatoes has been regulated, among other things, by food law since July 1, 2011. The specification of the sorting or the sorting range on the label is only optional under current law. The committee of the central associations of the potato industry for the potato business conditions and the expert system has therefore revised the 1956 Berlin agreements , also known as the German potato business conditions . These serve as the working basis for those involved in the market and are often included in contracts as additional voluntary quality agreements. The wording regarding the triplets is almost identical to the regulation on legal trading classes for table potatoes . Potatoes in a size grading for tubers of long oval to long varieties from 25 to 35 mm and tubers of round to oval varieties from 25 to 40 mm are still considered triplets.
