Duo Sorellas

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Duo Sorellas is one of the few all-male trapeze duos.

Christophe Gobet and Jean-Rodrique Funke met in 1993 at the artist school in Berlin , which they attended until 1997. They were never a couple, but they were close friends, lived together for a while and were nicknamed Sorellas by friends , which is the anglicised plural of the Italian word for "sister" (sorella). When they trained together, they learned individual tricks, but otherwise performed separately. In 1999 they were on tour together and at a charity midnight show in Kassel, all artists were supposed to show something new and unusual. Gobet and Funke hung the individual tricks together and appeared as Sorellas for the first time . The same evening they got their first engagement and since May 2000 they have been performing together regularly. Often they heard from vaudeville shows that their number was too gay - usually such circus numbers are performed by an opposite-sex couple - and they first had to convince the scene. Now, with her first circus engagement at Circus Roncalli (since 2005), this was not an issue at all.

Christophe Gobet

Gobet was born on August 2, 1976 in Friborg and grew up in Basel . Even as a child he did a lot of gymnastics and his mother sent him to the Basilisk children's circus. There he was one of the few who passed the entrance exam and saw his first trapeze act, which aroused his love for the device in him. After his training in Berlin he worked on solo trapeze on stages and in arenas in Switzerland and Germany.
