Duplum
In the Notre Dame school and the Ars antiqua, Duplum (Latin) denotes a (mostly higher) voice against the tenor . Similarly, a third or fourth voice added is referred to as a triplum or quadruplum . The duplum with a text that differs from the tenor is called a motetus .
