Thirst ball

The thirst ball or watering ball , also called plant sitter , is a device for simple, "automatic" watering of plants in flower pots . The thirst ball is filled two-thirds with water. The stem is stuck in the earth close to the roots. The water in the ball slowly seeps into the pot depending on the dryness of the potting soil.

Depending on the type of plant and its water requirements, one filling is sufficient for about 1 to 2 weeks.

The thirst ball is often made by hand, i.e. in glassworks or glass factories. But there are also plastic thirst balls and those made of other materials, often in different shapes and not just in spherical shape.
