The E / D / E high-rise in Wuppertal-Langerfeld

The purchasing office Deutscher Eisenhandel GmbH is a purchasing association based in Wuppertal and, according to its own statements, Europe's largest purchasing and marketing association for over 1200 medium-sized trading companies .

history

E / D / E GmbH was founded as the purchasing office of German iron traders Bock & Co on November 12, 1931 by Ferdinand Trautwein and four other merchants . The company was initially based in four rooms on Wupperstrasse in the Elberfeld district of Wuppertal . As the company grew, it moved to Distelbeck near the Wuppertal-Döppersberg train station , today's main train station.

In the beginning, the focus was on the warehouse business with heavy and small iron goods , construction and furniture fittings , tools as well as household and kitchen appliances . The warehouse was initially on Weidenplatz near the Wuppertal-Steinbeck train station , but then moved to a plot of land on Saarstrasse . When the office in the Distelbeck was destroyed in the air raid on Elberfeld in 1943 , the administration also moved to Saarstrasse , where in 1945 a temporary office barrack was built next to the warehouse .

The company benefited from the economic upswing in the post-war years and in 1956 employed around 130 people. The goods were presented at trade fairs organized by the Association of German Hardware Dealers , and branches and warehouses were set up in Munich and Kitzingen for southern Germany . At that time, only Robert Christians and Ferdinand Trautwein were the founders as managing partners of the company.

In 1964 the company moved to a 30,000 m² site in Wuppertal- Langerfeld , where a new warehouse and administration building was put into operation. In 1967 the company was transferred to Ferdinand Trautwein's son Eugen Trautwein . By 1981 the storage space had grown to 60,000 m², and the company had an exemplary high-bay warehouse with the associated conveyor belt. In 1998, today's company high-rise was built.

In 2009 a new warehouse with an investment value of 35 million euros was completed.

On January 1, 2012, E / D / E founded ETRIS Bank GmbH. As a wholly-owned subsidiary, it takes on central settlement and offers members and suppliers further options in the form of growth loans, financial services or payment processing.

On January 1, 2014, Andreas Trautwein took over the chairmanship of the management. After Ferdinand and Eugen Trautwein, he embodies the third generation of the family company. In the same year, the company's own DIE EDEfanten daycare center was inaugurated, and the company invested 2.5 million euros in its construction.
