Extended Partial Response / Maximum Likelihood

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Extended Partial Response / Maximum Likelihood (EPRML) is a reading method for data on magnetic media, mostly hard drives .

In order to write data on the surface of such a disk storage device, line coding takes place , for example by means of RLL code . When reading this data, the procedure is similar to that of Partial Response / Maximum Likelihood (PRML); EPRML achieves a 20-70 percent higher data density with the help of improved algorithms and better signal processing. Both of these methods are used in hard drives .
