ESA Brive (officially: Étoile Sportive Aiglons Briviste ) is a French football club from Brive-la-Gaillarde .

history

In 1920 the club Aiglons brivistes was founded in Brive , which ten years later merged with local rivals Étoile to form Étoile sportive aiglons briviste . Under player- coach Ernest Libérati , the club developed into one of the leading teams in the professional field in the non-German-occupied southern zone during the Second World War , as demonstrated by the semi-final participation in the Coupe de France 1942/43 ; She benefited from the fact that numerous Racing Strasbourg players had left for Brive shortly after the outbreak of war and before the German occupation. Therefore, the team also appeared when regular game operations were resumed after the war in Division 2 ; Due to a lack of financial resources, the club held here only until 1950. In the following years, the team played in the amateur field, where they played several times in the Championnat de France Amateur for the French amateur championship in the 1960s .

After several years in the regional amateur field, ESA Brive established itself in the third-class Championnat de France National in the 1990s and in some cases only narrowly missed the return to the professional field in the middle of the decade. After various players leaving the professional area, however, the club subsequently crashed into the fifth division. Meanwhile again promoted to the CFA, the club stood out in the Coupe de France 2003/04 again as a cup shock when the team eliminated, among other things, first division AJ Auxerre and reached the quarter-finals. After relegations again in 2007 and 2009, the club played again in the regional amateur area; in the 2013/14 season he competes in the sixth class Division d'Honneur .
