Ecole supérieure de guerre

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The École supérieure de guerre (ESG) ( German  for "Higher War School" ) was founded in 1876 by the Général de division Ernest Courtot de Cissey , who wanted to learn from the defeat of 1870 by setting up training courses for professional soldiers .

As part of the École militaire , it was the highest French institution for training generals and staff officers until 1992.

In 1992 the facility was replaced by the Collège interarmées de Défense (CID), which in 2012 became the École de guerre .

12,000 officers were trained there, 3,000 of whom were foreign forces. It also served as a model for the Vysoká škola válečná War College in Prague, which was established in 1921 with the help of the French Military Mission .
