Edward Dean Cooke (born October 17, 1849 in Cascade , Iowa , †  June 24, 1897 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1895 and 1897 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edward Cooke attended public schools in his home country. After a subsequent law degree in Dubuque and at George Washington University and his admission to the bar in 1873, he began to work in this profession in Chicago . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1883 he was a member of the Illinois House of Representatives .

In the congressional election of 1894 Cooke was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington in the sixth constituency of Illinois, where he succeeded Robert R. Hitt on March 4, 1895 . After a re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1897 . Edward Cooke died in Washington on June 24, 1897.
