Cenotaph for the fallen soldiers of the First World War
The war memorial for the fallen of the First World War is located on the Lerchenberg in Zella-Mehlis , surrounded by a small park .
In the middle of the building is a stone cube with metal plates on all four sides with the names of the fallen in the city. On it is the inscription "The dead admonish".
A board on the steps of the memorial informs interested visitors.
history
The creation of a memorial to the fallen soldiers of the First World War for 315 men from Zella St. Blasii and Mehlis had been discussed in the city council since the 1920s, but it was not implemented until years later. The memorial was therefore only inaugurated on November 24, 1935 after two years of construction.
The client was the city of Zella-Mehlis and Martin Schwarz from Arnstadt was the architect.
