In order to create a uniform test and assessment basis for the fire behavior of components, a standard temperature-time curve (ETK) has been established at international level . This describes a formula that specifies the conditions for the test.

The temperature rise in the ETK is determined according to the equation .

The component tests according to the fire protection standards DIN 4102-2, -3, -5, -6, -9 and -11 are based on the standard curve.
