Setting negative is a term used in photography.

The negative setting is a laboratory photographic standard . It is used to optimally adjust the apparatus and materials used in laboratory work for their use.

Adjustment negatives can be designed in several ways:

  1. as black and white line negative. The main purpose is to determine the maximum sharpness of the projector used together with the lens used .
  2. as a color adjustment negative. With its help it is possible to assess the basic setting of the entire further processing process in comparison to the desired standard result: An optimized positive sample print is supplied with the color setting negative. The laboratory technician aims for its sharpness and color characteristics when using the setting negative to match the projector, the filters , the chemical processes and the respective processing times to the material to be used ( films , papers ).
