Ice thorn
The ice thorn is originally Swedish safety equipment that can be used when ice hiking and other activities on the ice . The ice thorn ( Swedish isdubb ) consists of two handles with sharp metal tips at the ends. The handles are combined in pairs with a cord.
You can pull yourself out of an ice hole with the help of the tips of the ice thorn. It is important to ensure that you distribute your body weight well to prevent further ice break-in.
The ice thorns should not be stowed in your pocket or backpack, but should be carried around your neck high above your chest as soon as you step on the ice so that they are easily accessible in the event of an accident. The ice spikes are usually attached to the holder with a string to prevent them from being lost during use. Some ice thorns are also equipped with a whistle to enable attention to be drawn.
