Elephant foot (device)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An elephant's foot

As Elefantenfuß (also stool , rolling step or step stool ) refers to a rollable climbing aid which z. B. used to reach an object on a high shelf .

The elephant foot consists of a small, slightly barrel-shaped body with spring-loaded rollers that plunge in as soon as the device is loaded. Then it stands securely on the round (mostly rubberized) edge. It can only be rolled over the floor when it is not under load.

This auxiliary tool probably got its name from its shape: it looks like an actual elephant's foot .
