The term electron theory can stand for:

  • the Drude theory or electron theory of metals by Paul Drude from 1900; the theory that electrons can move freely in the crystal lattice of metals; also called electron theory of solids or electron theory of matter
  • the Lorentzian ether theory ( Lorentz electron theory ) by HA Lorentz from 1904, a further development of the Drude theory
