Ellen Johnson (* 1955) is an American civil rights activist and former president of American Atheists . She advocates the interests of atheists and the separation of church and state .

Johnson grew up in an atheist family and was active with American Atheists since 1978. She studied environmental and political science. After the disappearance of the founder of American Atheists Madalyn Murray O'Hair (she was later found murdered), Johnson succeeded her in 1995. In November 2002, Johnson announced the creation of the Godless Americans Political Action Committee (GAMPAC) to support political candidates who advocate the separation of church and state. In May 2008, Johnson's presidency ended after she was voted out of office against her will. The reasons for this are not known.
