Enhanced Message Service

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Enhanced Message Service or EMS is a service for communication between cell phones and uses the normal SMS infrastructure , but is also able to send pictures and sounds.

In contrast to the short message in SMS, an enhanced message is not limited to a length of 160 characters, but costs an extra message for each additional 160 characters or part thereof. Nevertheless, short messages or enhanced messages are usually cheaper compared to using the MMS . A multimedia message offers more options for the mobile transmission of picture and sound, but SMS or EMS is still sufficient for pure text messages.
