Deployment crackle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The crackling of unfolding is an auscultatory phenomenon. You can hear it especially in bedridden patients. If you auscultate the lungs immediately after the patient has got up after a long period of lying down, you can hear a faint crackling sound for a few breaths or until you cough up. It is because the collapsed or stuck alveoli unfold again.
