Enumeratio
The enumeratio (Latin for enumeration and in rhetoric for recapitulation, summarizing repetition ) or enumeration is a rhetorical figure that denotes the exhaustive enumeration of the parts of a superordinate whole. It implies completeness or isolation from other elements. - example:
- “Children, adults and the elderly - all love the book.” It is a special form of the general list called accumulatio .
The listing of two parts as a fixed, formulaic phrase is called Hendiadyoin .
A final compilation at the end of a speech or an argument is called a recapitulatio .
