Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Turkey

Erdoğan's speeches on the Bundestag resolution on the Armenian genocide were political statements by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in two speeches to graduates from two universities in Istanbul . On June 4, 2016 he spoke at the Marmara University on the occasion of the parliamentary resolution of June 2, the recognition of the Turkish genocide of the Armenians over the Turkish-born members of the German Bundestag . Erdoğan said they had nothing to do with Turkishness and that their blood was spoiled. Erdoğan used the expression " kanı bozuk ". In German this means “degenerate”, “degenerate” or “characterless”. Furthermore, they are the extended arm of the separatist terrorist organization in Germany.

In a speech the following day to graduates of Zaim University, Erdoğan asked what kind of Turk Cem Özdemir was and added that the blood of the MPs should be examined in a laboratory test. Actually, the nature of their blood is uninteresting. Rather, what matters is what they are doing and in whose name. A few days later he stated that the term he used did not mean “spoiled blood” but “lacking character”. Of the Turkish-born MPs, almost half did not take part in the vote on June 2 at all.

In the speech he referred to the consequences of colonialism in Africa, u. a. Slave trade, the genocide of the Herero and Nama by the German Empire, the Congo conference on the division of Africa among the European states and others.

In an interview during a trip to Africa, Erdoğan described this resolution of the German Bundestag as meaningless; and the spokesman for the federal government, Steffen Seibert , declared at the federal press conference on September 2, 2016 that the resolution of the Bundestag aims to "express views on political issues - without these being legally binding".

The journalist Thomas Frankenfeld sees Sèvres syndrome as the main reason for Erdoğan's sensitive reaction to the resolution.

Affected

The members of the Bundestag of Turkish origin are:

Erdoğan and the AKP defamed the members of the Bundestag of Turkish origin, regardless of whether they approved the resolution or were absent from the vote. All SPD MPs of Turkish origin, with the exception of State Minister Özoguz, stayed away from the vote. Özoguz did not agree to the resolution. The Green Mutlu left the Chamber ten minutes before the vote.

consequences

Two police unions in Turkey announced a lawsuit against the eleven, as did a Turkish legal association. Under Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code, the eleven could be sentenced to prison terms. Entry into Turkey would be very dangerous for those affected if charged, feared member of the Bundestag Özcan Mutlu of the Greens .

Member of the Bundestag Sevim Dagdelen from the Left reported the consequences of Erdoğan's speech in blood for her and her family. The President's campaign against the eleven MPs is also being led by organizations in Germany, such as the mosque association DITIB . The wave of lawsuits orchestrated by Erdoğan threatened the eleven with up to three years imprisonment in Turkey. Dagdelen called for a German entry ban against Erdoğan and his ministers, members of parliament and mayors, who have called for violence against members of the Bundestag. She also complained about the federal government's unwillingness to act.

The team received, agreed with the Federal Police and the Federal Criminal Police Office , police protection . The Foreign Office warned MPs not to travel to Turkey. Because of an atmosphere of agitation, their security in Turkey is in danger. Cem Özdemir confirmed hostility from Turkey; his father's home parish had denied him citizenship. He has received numerous death threats. The MP Cemile Giousouf from the CDU reported insults against her parents as well.

Reactions

Norbert Lammert, President of the German Bundestag

Bundestag President Norbert Lammert said that he did not consider such attacks by a democratically elected head of state to be possible. The MPs received death threats. He expressed his solidarity with the eleven, because these are attacks on the whole parliament. Lammert also criticized statements made by other high-ranking politicians from Turkey. The President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz called the terrorism allegation a taboo break and announced a letter to the President of Turkey. Chancellor Angela Merkel defended the freely elected MPs. The Foreign Office asked the Turkish Chargé d'Affaires to meet in Berlin. The federal government had already said through government spokesman Seibert that it could not understand the alleged proximity of the eleven to terrorism. In addition, the PKK is also classified as a terrorist organization in Germany.

Reinhard Müller commented in the FAZ that the authoritarian head of state Erdoğan had exposed himself with his outrageous influence. Erdoğan's blood count brings Müller close to the “ blood and soil standards”. Erdoğan gave the Turks a choice: “Are you coming along on a journey through time into the darkest past - or are you at least staying on the path to modernity? The inhuman friend-foe thinking of the autocrat should actually make the decision easy. "

The chairman of the Association of Turkish Congregations in Germany reacted critically: "We find death threats and blood test demands abhorrent," said Gökay Sofuoglu . Since 1945 it has stopped that people are defined by blood. The allegations of terrorism are something that is now heard from all opposition activists.
